April 3 The fishing at Lake Carroll has really picked up this past week. All species of Bass, Catfish, and Walleye are being caught in several areas on the lake. Some nice Catfish are being caught in the east marina by the bridge. Three tube area is giving up some White Bass and Walleye. Many stringers are being taken off of the docks in the west marina.
April 16th Fishing is starting to pick up at Lake Carroll! Water temps are approaching 55 degrees and in the backs of some of the coves closer to 60 degrees. We have seen a number of boats catching smaller Bass. There is a rumor going around of 1 Largemouth right at 5 lbs. Hey, you guys that take pics, send a digital photo and I will post it so that everyone can see your latest catch.
Walleyes are being caught on crankbaits and jigs tipped with large minnows. Crappie and White Bass are catch and release until May 15th, so throw'em all back. We have a large selection of tackle and live bait including large and small minnows, leeches, nightcrawlers, and red worms. Stop by and see us at Millers Sport Center. I will periodically be posting new news and pics.
April 25th. The first tournament of the year was held yesterday at the lake. It was a Walleye only event. Eight boats participated. The winning weight of 4 fish was 10.4 lbs. A variety of bait was used including leeches, crankbaits and night crawlers. The weather was a little rough, but as they say a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work! Get out there and fish!
If any of you have been at the lake this past week, what a treat. The water clarity is unbelievable. In some areas you can probably see down 20 feet. Its like looking into a giant aquarium. It sure doesn't help the fishing, but it is something to see. We have seen about every species of fish out there while installing dock and lift.
For you Bass fisherman, the large and smallmouth are on the beds and getting ready to spawn. The smallmouth will defend those beds with a vengance, while the largemouth are a little less agressive at this stage. Just about any plastic or jig combination will work. On the other side of the spectrum, do you really want to disturb the fish while they are spawning?
I know this is a topic that causes a lot of discussion, so I will leave that up to you. As we get more people checking the site, remember I will post any digital pics that you send me. Also, there will be more tournaments in the future. Don't be afraid to enter one, you just might have a great day of fishing.
