Crestliner is a well-known and highly respected boat manufacturing company with a rich history in DeKalb, Illinois. Founded in 1946 by William Morser Sr., the company has played an integral role in the economic and cultural development of the city. The story of Crestliner begins when William Morser Sr. moved to DeKalb from Wisconsin after World War II. An avid fisherman himself, he saw great potential in starting a boat building business in this small town located just west of Chicago. He purchased an old car dealership on Lincoln Highway and converted it into his first factory. In its early years, Crestliner primarily produced wooden boats which were popular at the time. However, as technology evolved and new materials became available, they shifted to producing aluminum boats that were lighter, more durable, and easier to maintain. This move proved to be revolutionary for Crestliner as their sales soared and they quickly gained recognition as one of the top manufacturers of aluminum boats. By the 1950s, Crestliner had become a household name not only in DeKalb but also throughout the Midwest region. Their high-quality boats were sought after by fishermen and recreational boaters alike due to their superior craftsmanship and attention to detail. One significant event that helped put Crestliner on the map was their partnership with Mercury Marine in 1969. The two companies collaborated on creating lightweight yet powerful outboard motors specifically designed for use with aluminum boats like those produced by Crestliner. This led to increased sales for both companies and solidified their positions as leaders in the boating industry. Throughout its history, Crestliner has faced ups and downs like any other business entity but has always managed to stay true to its roots – providing quality products at affordable prices while supporting local communities where it operates. In addition to being known for its excellent products, Crestliner is also admired for its commitment towards innovation and technological advancements within the boating industry. In the 1970s, they introduced their first fiberglass boat line, which was a significant departure from their traditional aluminum boats. This move showcased Crestliner's ability to adapt and evolve with changing consumer preferences. The company also made strides in incorporating eco-friendly practices into its manufacturing process, long before it became a mainstream concept. They were one of the first companies to use recycled aluminum in their boats and implemented energy-efficient measures in their factories. In 1981, Crestliner was acquired by Brunswick Corporation – one of the world's leading manufacturers of marine engines and recreational products. The acquisition brought new resources and opportunities for growth to Crestliner while allowing them to maintain their brand identity and continue producing high-quality boats. As part of Brunswick Corporation, Crestliner expanded its product line even further with the introduction of pontoon boats in the late 1990s. These luxurious vessels quickly gained popularity among boaters seeking comfort and style on the water. Today, Crestliner continues to thrive under Brunswick's ownership, having grown into a global brand with dealerships across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and South America. Their commitment towards innovation has led them to develop cutting-edge features such as SureMount gunnel systems for customization options on fishing boats and innovative hull designs for enhanced stability on rough waters. In recent years, Crestliner has also taken steps towards community involvement through partnerships with organizations like Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Foundation – a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting youth involvement in fishing activities. Additionally, they have sponsored events such as Take A Kid Fishing Day that aim at introducing children to outdoor activities like fishing while teaching them about conservation efforts. Crestliner's presence is deeply woven into DeKalb's fabric; it is not just another business entity but an integral part of the city's history and culture. It provides employment opportunities for local residents while contributing significantly to DeKalb’s economy through sales revenue generated from its dealerships and manufacturing facilities. The company also supports local charities and organizations, further solidifying its commitment towards the community. In conclusion, Crestliner has come a long way since its humble beginnings in DeKalb, Illinois. From producing wooden boats to becoming a global leader in aluminum and fiberglass boat manufacturing, the company has left an indelible mark on the boating industry. With their unwavering dedication to quality products and community involvement, there is no doubt that Crestliner will continue to thrive for many years to come.

Crestliner is a well-known boat manufacturing company that has been in the industry for over 70 years. Founded in 1946, Crestliner has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of aluminum fishing and recreational boats in North America. The history of Crestliner dates back to World War II when it was known as Aluminum Boat Company. During the war, aluminum was considered a strategic material and was heavily used for military equipment, including boats. After the war ended, there was an excess supply of aluminum which led to its availability for commercial use. This provided an opportunity for entrepreneurs like David Thompson and Milt Moritz to start their own business using this versatile material. Thompson and Moritz saw potential in manufacturing boats with aluminum instead of traditional materials such as wood or fiberglass. They believed that aluminum would make lighter, stronger, and more durable boats that could withstand harsh weather conditions while also being easier to maintain. In 1946, they founded Aluminum Boat Company in Little Falls, Minnesota which later became known as Crestliner. In its early days, Crestliner focused on producing small fishing boats made out of riveted aluminum sheets. These were marketed towards fishermen who needed a reliable yet affordable boat for their angling adventures. The first few years were challenging for the company as they faced competition from other established brands and skepticism about using aluminum as a primary material for boats. However, with dedication and perseverance, Thompson and Moritz continued to improve their designs by incorporating new technologies such as welding instead of riveting which increased durability and decreased production time significantly. As word spread about the quality craftsmanship offered by Crestliner's products at reasonable prices, demand grew steadily. In 1951, just five years after its inception,Crestliner introduced its first v-hull design called "Viking" which revolutionized the boating industry at that time. It quickly became popular among anglers due to its stability on rough waters and its ability to be easily maneuvered. This design set the foundation for future models to come. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Crestliner continued to grow in popularity with its expanding product line, including luxury cruising boats and larger fishing boats. The company also made a significant impact on the boating industry by introducing new features such as live wells, rod storage compartments, and reinforced transoms. In 1981,Crestliner was acquired by Brunswick Corporation, one of the world's leading manufacturers of recreational marine products. This acquisition brought financial stability and allowed Crestliner to expand its production facilities while maintaining its commitment to quality craftsmanship. DeKalb, Illinois is a small city located in the northern region of the state. With a population of approximately 44,000 people, it may not be the largest or most well-known city in Illinois, but it has its own unique charm and character that sets it apart from other cities. The history of DeKalb dates back to the early 1800s when settlers began arriving and establishing farms along the banks of the Kishwaukee River. The town was officially incorporated in 1868 and named after Johann de Kalb, a German hero who fought alongside George Washington during the American Revolution. Agriculture played a significant role in shaping DeKalb's early years as farmers grew crops such as corn, wheat, oats, and potatoes. As time passed, DeKalb saw an increase in industrial growth with companies like Northern Illinois Gas Company (now Nicor), Nestle Corporation (formerly known as Libby McNeill & Libby), and Barber-Colman setting up factories within its borders. This led to an economic boom for the city and provided job opportunities for its residents. Today, DeKalb is home to Northern Illinois University (NIU), one of the largest universities in Illinois with over 20,000 students enrolled. NIU brings diversity and energy to the community through its various academic programs and cultural events. One cannot talk about DeKalb without mentioning Huskie Pride – a term used to describe both NIU sports teams' fan base as well as community members' support for their local university. On game days at Huskie Stadium or at any sporting event on campus or around town, you will see students donning red shirts emblazoned with "Huskie Nation" while locals proudly display bumper stickers proclaiming "Proud to be a Huskies Fan." This sense of pride extends beyond just athletics; there is also great pride among residents for their hometown team –the DeKalb Barbs – who compete in various sports at the high school level. In addition to its strong educational and athletic presence, DeKalb offers a variety of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The city has several parks, including Hopkins Park, which features a community pool, playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking trails. The Kishwaukee River runs through the heart of the city and provides opportunities for kayaking, fishing, and scenic walks along its banks. In the winter months, residents can enjoy skiing or snowboarding at nearby ski resorts such as Ski Snowstar Winter Sports Park or Chestnut Mountain Resort. DeKalb is also known for its vibrant arts scene. The Egyptian Theatre is a historic landmark that hosts live performances ranging from concerts to plays to movie screenings. The Art Box is an art gallery featuring works by local artists while Stage Coach Players put on regular theatrical productions throughout the year. One of DeKalb's most significant annual events is Corn Fest – a three-day festival held every August that celebrates the city's agricultural roots with food vendors, carnival rides, live music performances, and more. Another popular event is Downtown DeKalb's Farmers Market held every Thursday during warmer months where locals can purchase fresh produce from local farmers. Despite all these positive aspects of life in DeKalb, like any other city it faces challenges as well. One issue that has been prevalent in recent years is gun violence. In 2008-2009 alone there were nine homicides in the small town - a shocking statistic for this close-knit community where everyone knows each other by name. The City of DeKalb takes steps towards addressing issues like crime through initiatives such as neighborhood watch programs and partnerships between law enforcement officials and community leaders to promote safety awareness among residents. Another challenge faced by many cities across America but particularly relevant in smaller communities like DeKalb is balancing urban development with preserving green spaces and natural resources. The city has taken steps to address this issue through the establishment of a Green Space Committee and implementing sustainable practices, such as improving bike paths and promoting recycling. In conclusion, DeKalb may be a small city in the grand scheme of things, but it is certainly not lacking in character or community spirit. From its humble beginnings as an agricultural town to its current identity as a thriving university town with a strong sense of pride and support for local businesses and organizations, DeKalb continues to grow and evolve while maintaining its unique charm. With its rich history, diverse population, recreational opportunities, cultural events, and commitment to progress, DeKalb is more than just another Illinois town – it's a place that many are proud to call home.

Crestliner is a brand that has been synonymous with quality, durability, and innovation in the boating industry for over 70 years. The company was founded in 1946 by two brothers, Willis and Carl Larson, who had a passion for building boats. Today, Crestliner is one of the leading manufacturers of aluminum fishing boats and pontoon boats in North America. The Early Years: The story of Crestliner begins in Little Falls, Minnesota when the Larson brothers began experimenting with boat building techniques using aluminum. At that time, most boats were made from wood which required constant maintenance and were susceptible to rotting. The Larson brothers saw an opportunity to create something better - a boat that would not only be more durable but also lightweight and easy to maneuver on the water. In 1946, they built their first aluminum boat – a small fishing skiff named “Scout”. This boat caught the attention of local fishermen who were impressed by its sturdiness and performance on the water. The success of this initial design prompted Willis and Carl to officially launch their business as "Crestliner Boats" later that year. Expansion & Innovations: As word spread about Crestliner’s high-quality boats, demand grew rapidly. In order to keep up with this growing demand, the Larson brothers expanded their operations by opening new manufacturing facilities across Minnesota. They also continued to innovate by introducing new features such as sealed flotation chambers for added safety on rough waters. In 1957, Crestliner introduced its first fiberglass boat – a revolutionary move at that time since most other manufacturers exclusively used wood or aluminum materials for their vessels. This expansion into fiberglass marked another milestone for Crestliner as it became one of the few companies offering both aluminum and fiberglass models. During the 1960s-1970s era known as "the golden age"of boating industry growth ,Crestliner took advantage of advancements in technology such as computer-aided design and manufacturing to improve their production processes. This resulted in more efficient and precise boat building, allowing them to offer a wider range of models with varying sizes, features, and designs. Acquisition by Brunswick Corporation: In 1984, Crestliner was acquired by the Brunswick Corporation – one of the largest marine companies in the world. This acquisition brought significant changes for Crestliner including access to greater resources for research and development, marketing efforts, and distribution channels. It also allowed Crestliner to expand its product line beyond fishing boats into other recreational categories such as pontoon boats. Innovations continued under Brunswick's ownership as they introduced new technologies like the "Uni-Weld" process which created seamless aluminum hulls without any rivets or weld lines. They also developed specialized hull designs that offered superior handling on rough waters. Crestliner Today: Today, Crestliner is headquartered in New York Mills, Minnesota where it operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility spanning over 300,000 square feet. The company continues to push boundaries in boat design and construction with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship and innovative features. One example of this is their patented “SureMount” accessory system which allows users to easily customize their boats with various accessories such as rod holders, cup holders, and electronics mounts without drilling holes into the boat's structure. Crestliner has also stayed true to its roots by continuously improving its aluminum boat technology - making them lighter yet stronger than ever before. Their use of advanced engineering techniques combined with high-grade materials ensures that each Crestliner boat offers unmatched durability while remaining lightweight for easy transport. Additionally,Crestline r has expanded its lineup from just fishing boats to include versatile pontoons designed for both relaxation and adventure on the water. These pontoons feature modern amenities like plush seating,live-wells,sound systems, and even ski-towers,making them perfect for family outings or entertaining friends. Environmental Stewardship: Crestliner has also been committed to environmental sustainability throughout its history. Initially named the Aluminum Boat Company, Crestliner started out as a small business producing welded aluminum boats for fishermen and hunters on the Mississippi River. However, with their reputation for quality craftsmanship and durable construction, the company quickly grew in popularity. In 1950, Crestliner introduced its first fiberglass boat model called the Viking. This marked a shift towards using more modern materials in boat manufacturing and helped to establish Crestliner as an innovative brand within the industry. Throughout the following decades, Crestliner continued to expand its product line to include a variety of different models such as fishing boats, runabouts, pontoons, and even sailboats. They also began exporting their boats worldwide during this time period. In 1964, Crestliner became part of Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC), which allowed them to increase production capabilities and further develop new technology for their boats. This partnership led to several successful collaborations with other well-known brands such as Evinrude outboard motors. DeKalb, Illinois is a city located in DeKalb County in northern Illinois. The area was first settled by European American pioneers in the early 1830s, who were drawn to the fertile land and abundant water sources. The city of DeKalb was officially incorporated on June 16, 1869. The name "DeKalb" comes from Johann de Kalb, a German-born military officer who fought for the Continental Army during the American Revolution. In honor of his service, General Lafayette named a county in Georgia after him. When settlers came to this part of Illinois, they decided to name their new town after de Kalb as well. In the mid-1800s, DeKalb began to grow rapidly due to its location on two major railroad lines: the Chicago & Northwestern Railway and the Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railroad. These railroads provided easy access for farmers to transport their goods and brought business opportunities that spurred economic growth. One of DeKalb's most notable historical events occurred on July 7th, 1944 when an ammunition plant exploded killing more than 50 people and injuring hundreds more. This tragedy had a lasting impact on the community and is still remembered today through memorials and an annual remembrance ceremony. Throughout its history, DeKalb has been home to several industries including farming, manufacturing (particularly barbed wire), education (Northern Illinois University was founded here in 1895), and research with companies like Monsanto having facilities in the area. Another important aspect of DeKalb's history is its diverse population. In addition to European-American settlers, many immigrants also made their homes here over time including Irish laborers who helped build railroads; Swedish migrants who worked at local factories; African Americans fleeing Jim Crow laws; Mexican migrant workers who were recruited by agricultural companies; and Southeast Asian refugees seeking political asylum after wars broke out in their homelands. Today, DeKalb continues to be a vibrant and diverse community with a strong agricultural heritage. The city is home to over 44,000 residents and boasts a thriving downtown area, numerous parks and recreational facilities, as well as a variety of cultural events throughout the year. Its rich history can still be seen in its many historic buildings and landmarks such as the Egyptian Theatre built in 1929. DeKalb's past has shaped it into the dynamic city it is today, with its strong sense of community, hardworking spirit, and commitment to progress. As it continues to grow and evolve, DeKalb will undoubtedly continue to make an impact on both local and national levels for years to come.

Crestliner boats have been a staple in the Northern Illinois town of DeKalb for over 60 years. The history of this iconic brand is deeply intertwined with the city's own development and growth, making it an integral part of the local community. The story of Crestliner began in 1946 when two brothers, Dave and Willis Northrup, founded the company in Little Falls, Minnesota. They started out by building wooden fishing boats but quickly shifted to aluminum construction due to its durability and ease of maintenance. It wasn't until 1954 that Crestliner made its mark on DeKalb. That year, a group of investors led by local businessman John Smeja purchased the struggling boat manufacturing company and relocated it to DeKalb. This move was prompted by several factors such as lower labor costs and proximity to major transportation routes like Interstate 88. With this change in location came a new era for Crestliner. The company experienced rapid growth under Smeja's leadership. In just four short years after moving to DeKalb, Crestliner's annual sales surpassed $1 million – an impressive feat at the time. One key factor behind this success was Smeja’s commitment to innovation and quality craftsmanship. He invested heavily in research and development which resulted in advancements such as full-width decks, deep "V" hulls for improved handling, adjustable pedestal seats for added comfort, among others. In addition to these technological advancements, another crucial aspect that contributed to Crestliner’s success was their partnership with Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC). OMC supplied engines for most of Crestliner's models during this period which helped solidify their reputation as high-performance boats. As demand continued to grow throughout the following decades, so did Crestliner’s production capabilities. In 1970 they opened a second factory on Barber Greene Road that employed over 200 workers at its peak production period during summer months. However, the 1980s marked a challenging period for Crestliner as competition from other manufacturers increased. In response, the company introduced more diverse product lines such as pontoons and runabouts while maintaining their signature fishing boats. Despite these efforts, Crestliner was forced to file for bankruptcy in 1986. The following year Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) acquired the brand and moved production back to Little Falls, Minnesota – where it all began. But DeKalb's connection with Crestliner didn't end there. In 2001 Brunswick Corporation purchased OMC which included brands like Evinrude and Johnson outboard motors along with Crestliner boats. Brunswick invested heavily in modernizing the DeKalb plant which boosted productivity by implementing advanced technology and efficient manufacturing processes. Today, Crestliner is one of the top-selling aluminum boat brands in North America with a wide range of models including fishing boats, pontoons, utility boats, and ski & fish combinations. Their commitment to quality craftsmanship remains unchanged since its inception over six decades ago. In recent years, Crestliner has also made strides towards sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly materials into their manufacturing process and participating in initiatives such as “Take Back My Boat” where old or damaged boats are recycled instead of ending up in landfills. The impact of this iconic brand on DeKalb goes beyond just economic growth. It has become an important part of the city’s identity and culture. Many residents have fond memories associated with owning or riding on a Crestliner boat whether it be summer days spent on Lake Shabbona or family trips down Kishwaukee River. Furthermore,Crestliner continues to support local events such as "Fish With A Hero" - an annual event that brings together veterans from around the country for a day of fishing at Lake Geneva sponsored by Mercury Marine along with several other community organizations, In conclusion, the history of Crestinerboats' presence in DeKalb, Illinois is a testament to the city's resilience and ability to adapt to changing times. It has grown from a struggling company in need of a new home to one of the most highly regarded boat manufacturers in the country. The brand's commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability has left an indelible mark on both DeKalb’s economy and culture. As long as boating remains a popular activity in Northern Illinois,Crestliner will continue to be synonymous with this vibrant community for years to come.

However, it wasn't until they switched to aluminum construction in 1953 that Crestliner truly began to take off. Innovation and Growth The use of aluminum allowed Crestliner to produce lighter yet stronger boats than ever before. This proved particularly useful for anglers who needed a boat that could be easily transported from one lake or river to another without sacrificing durability. Throughout the decades, Crestliner continued to innovate and expand its product line. In 1960, they introduced their first deep-V hull design which offered better stability and handling on rough waters. This was followed by other notable innovations such as adjustable pedestal seating in 1971 and an all-welded hull construction process in 1984. In addition to technological advancements, Crestliner also expanded its reach globally through partnerships with international distributors. This allowed them to bring their high-quality products beyond just North America and into markets around the world. Today's Lineup Over time, Crestliner has evolved from solely producing fishing boats into offering a diverse lineup suitable for various water activities including cruising, skiing/wakeboarding, hunting/fishing combinations etc.. The current lineup includes models ranging from small utility crafts like jon-boats up-to large multi-purpose vessels like pontoon boats. All Crestliner boats are designed with the customer in mind, offering features and options to enhance their boating experience. These include spacious storage compartments, comfortable seating arrangements, and advanced technology such as touchscreen displays and wireless phone charging. One of the most recent additions to the Crestliner lineup is their Bass Hawk series which was introduced in 2019. This series combines the best features from traditional bass boats with a larger platform for added stability and storage. It has been well received by both fishing enthusiasts and industry experts alike. Commitment to Quality Crestliner takes great pride in its commitment to quality construction using only top-of-the-line materials. All models undergo rigorous testing before being released onto the market. This includes repeated stress tests on various components, water resistance trials, and overall performance evaluations. In addition, all Crestliner boats come with a limited lifetime warranty on structural components providing customers with peace of mind knowing that they are purchasing a product built to last. Environmental Responsibility As an avid producer of watercrafts used for recreational purposes, Crestliner recognizes its responsibility towards preserving our natural resources for future generations. The company actively participates in sustainable practices such as using recycled aluminum in production processes whenever possible and adhering to strict environmental regulations set out by governing bodies. Community Involvement Crestliner also understands the importance of giving back to communities where they operate or have a presence. They regularly partner with non-profit organizations like Take Me Fishing™ Foundation which aims at introducing kids & families into outdoor activities including boating & fishing while promoting conservation efforts around these hobbies. Conclusion Crestline's long history as an industry leader stands testament not only to its innovative design but also its dedication towards producing high-quality products that cater to different needs without compromising on durability or safety standards.
